This “Tuesday Twosome” is a special day for one of our editors – it’s her 3rd wedding anniversary! Courtney and her husband, Ryan, were married three years ago in West Point, New York. Ryan returned home from Iraq several days ago, making it a very special holiday season for our family! Here is the happy couple at a friend’s wedding last December. Courtney looks lovely in this strapless, red satin gown, while Ryan looks very sharp in his dress blues! We wish all the happiness in the world to this terrific pair!

Look-of-the-Day
Most holiday movies tend to have the same overall message – be kind, be joyful and do unto others. But no other film portrays the message “Peace on Earth” quite as subtly or beautifully as Joyeux Noël. The 2005 film was a multi-nation project depicting the famous Christmas truce on the Western Front between Scottish, French and German troops during World War I. The hypnotizing woman pictured above is German actress Diane Kruger, as a Danish opera singer named Anna
Sørensen. Her German lover and fellow opera singer, Sprink, is a soldier on the front, and as a Christmas treat, they’re allowed to perform for Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia (pictured, below). Sprink has to return to the trenches, and Anna decides to go with him. Anna, outfitted in a soft, sparkly gold turn-of-the-century gown, keeps herself warm with a stunning floor-length cranberry velvet cape with fur-lined edges. She is a vision to the men that have seen nothing but horror over the last few months. Kruger stands out among the sea of soldiers, who soon realize it’s not only their uniforms that unite them… Sprink starts to sing traditional Christmas carols, which catches the attention of their enemies; it is the haunting sounds of “Silent Night” that bring the fighting forces together, to celebrate the holiday. It was based on the true story of German tenor Walter Kirchhoff, whose songs were met with cheers from French soldiers, which initiated the truce. Unfortunately, the peace doesn’t last for long, nor is it rewarded by the troops’ respective governments. If the men of one of the bloodiest wars in history could find hope and brotherhood among their enemies in the trenches, we can all learn to to be a little more empathetic this season…
Look-of-the-Day

Since Veterans Day happened to fall on a “Fancy Friday,” we thought Katy Perry’s red gown from VH1′s Divas Salute the Troops last year was quite appropriate to feature! The sexy singer wore a whole lot of provocative military-inspired wear that night, but donned this fancy dress, too! The strapless, red-sequined gown had a slit that redefines the word “thigh-high” and paired it with long red gloves and matching platform stilettos. Perry has the perfect hourglass figure to rock 1940s outfits, and this Jessica Rabbit-esque costume is no different. We’re sure the troops certainly appreciated her singing, and her sexiness! Happy Veterans Day!
Look-of-the-Day
Ahoy! Now this is a Memorial Day outfit! It’s nautical for the upcoming summer season, and it’s military-inspired to remember all those who have served! Gossip Girl‘s Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester) tends to be in a state of dudgeon, but here she looks positively sweet in this sailor suit! Blair’s version is called the “Captain” dress from Bettie Page Clothing. There are actually dozens of places to buy a knockoff (this editor purchased an identical one for a whopping $25 on eBay). Miss Waldorf wore this outfit on the first season finale of Gossip Girl when she was supposed to meet Chuck, and take off for Tuscany – but of course, nothing ever goes as planned for Blair. At least she accessorized well with her neck scarf, Louis Vuitton luggage, and Yves Saint Laurent preppy pumps. Here’s hoping your Memorial Day goes better than Blair’s!
Look-of-the-Day

This rainy, gloomy-looking day deserved a gloomy “Look-of-the-Day,” and who are more prepared for inclement weather and utter heartbreak than the British?! (We’re kidding, our editors are complete Anglophiles here at theSkinnyStiletto.) This “Tuesday Twosome” is none other than the gorgeous onscreen couple, Keira Knightley and James McAvoy as Cecilia and Robbie, in Atonement. Our first post was about Keira’s infamous green gown from this motion picture, so it’s not surprising we featured the Jacqueline Durran fashion again. Here, Cecilia is sporting a 1940s navy blue trench coat and matching hat over her nurse’s uniform, while Robbie has on his British military uniform. What’s sexier than people dedicating their lives to a cause higher than themselves? Nothing. (Well, some horrible paths of fate led them to their roles, but still.) Despite the couple’s lovely Oscar-nominated clothing, you want to cry just looking at their extremely plangent faces and knowing what awaits them.
