A few years ago, most people would have thought Target to be one of the least likely places to find affordable designer duds by both new and established talent… boy were we wrong. Starting this Sunday, Target is re-releasing many of its high-end collaborations to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Target’s GO International designer collections. The line will feature 34 dresses by designers Zac Posen, Proenza Schouler, Rogan, Tara Jarmon, Tracy Feith, Tucker, Richard Chai, Jonathan Saunders, Luella Bartley, Libertine, Behnaz Sarafpour, Erin Fetherson, Paul & Joe and Alice Temperley. It will also feature popular designer of the season, Rodarte, the artist behind Natalie Portman’s dazzling costumes in Black Swan and her plum gown at the Oscars; Thakoon, a favorite of First Lady Michelle Obama; and Jovovich-Hawk, the celebrity line by actress/former model Milla Jovovich.
None of the dresses are over $44.99 – which is a great deal for high-end fashion. The Target Corporation developed the idea to feature designer collections for no longer than 90 days – an idea so ingenious that Wal*Mart and K-mart also followed suit, bringing typically expensive names to the big bargain stores. Our favorite frocks include Alice Temperley’s LBDs (little black dresses), Luella Bartley’s signature British style, Rodarte’s black and beige lace number, and Iranian-American Behnaz Sarafpour proves why she was a 2010 finalist for the Smithsonian’s National Design Award with a sophisticated black, white and gray cocktail dress. And if streamlined isn’t your style, Jovovich Hawk makes Bohemian chic surprisingly sexy. Most of the other dresses aren’t as exciting as those pictured, but most still make for cute Spring outfits. They will be featured until April 10th.
