Our editors are probably two of the very few females on the planet that absolutely loathe Gone with the Wind.  Vivien Leigh plays Scarlett O’Hara, a spoiled, selfish Southern shrew… but she does have one rocking wardrobe (Tara looks like it’s seen better days).  The mid-1800s aren’t our favorite era for clothing, but the costumes in this movie, created by Walter Plunkett, are breathtaking.  (Don’t believe us?  How many goofy girls dress up as that Irish wench each year?  Or have Gone with the Wind-themed weddings?)  This fluffy white dress shows off Leigh’s beautiful figure with a red belt, and matching brooch at the neck.  Unfortunately there wasn’t an Oscar category for Costume Design yet, so Plunkett didn’t win an award for it, but we’re sure he would have if it existed.  Obviously you couldn’t just throw this gown on today, but the color-combination, buttons, belt and intricate detailing are definitely items to take away from this look.
