Our editors have mentioned before that Gone with the Wind isn’t a film we particularly like watching, but Scarlett O’Hara’s clothes are just stunning. This is our favorite outfit of hers – a black and white striped gown! (Just like one of our other all-time favorite looks by Colleen Atwood!) Walter Plunkett designed some outstanding costumes for the 1939 movie. Scarlett betrays her sisters, friends and husband to get what she wants (mainly money to upkeep that dump she lives in called Tara), which is why she ends up all alone on her land. We know the movie is supposed to be a grand metaphor for the Civil War (or for the real naïve, an epic romance), but the main character is such a selfish, spoiled, devious cow, our interest in this movie is aptly summed up in its most famous line – “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.”
