“What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction.” It seems the color of the sun will forever play an interesting role in Katniss Everdeen’s life… Here she is with fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) in The Hunger Games. The two make quite an attractive pair in a bright blue suit, and a soft, non-threatening yellow dress – nothing like what Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) has worn prior to this moment in her young life. Without revealing too much about the series or the film, this seemingly happy moment will only be short-lived… Let the countdown to Catching Fire begin!

“Leave the district. Run off. Live in the woods. You and I, we could make it.” It seems The Hunger Games is everywhere you turn these days, and after reading the entire series in a couple of days, now this editor knows why… it’s one of the most amazing books ever written. Suzanne Collins’ simple words have hundreds of meanings, but more on that later. As our admiration skyrocketed for both the books and the movie, we realized it was time to dedicate an entire week to the story we can’t get enough of. This “Tuesday Twosome,” (even if this editor is 100% Team Peeta) are best friends Katniss and Gale, played by Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth, on one of their hunting trips. Liam Hemsworth looks somehow strong, handsome and poor in a worn-in crewneck, hunting boots, ripped pants and a matching vest all in the muted greys and browns of District 12. In the novel, Katniss’s jacket was an oversized hand-me-down from her deceased father, but costume designer Judianna Makovsky told the LA Times, “We tried that, but it didn’t look good, and she couldn’t move her arms to shoot.” Instead, they went with a tan leather jacket modeled after 1940s styles from different costume houses. Her striped pants were made from an 1870s Levi Strauss pattern. Accessorized with matching boots, her famous long braid and (of course) a bow and arrow, Jennifer Lawrence comes to life as Katniss Everdeen in the film’s opening scene.
“You’re not in America now, you’re in Ireland. So have a drink and shut up,” Declan, played by Matthew Goode, tells Amy Adams’ character, Anna, in the 2010 film Leap Year. The two play complete opposites who end up roaming the Irish countryside together so that Anna can propose to her boyfriend in Dublin on February 29th – the one day when it’s okay for a woman to ask a man to marry him in Ireland. Inevitably, Anna ends up falling for her tour guide instead. They end up making one sexy Irish couple, which is why we’ve chosen them for today’s “Tuesday Twosome.” Here, Adams is wearing a Burberry trench coat with a green and white floral lining, tan Christian Louboutin pumps, and a mint green stitched top by Day Birger et Mikkelsen. The soft color combination against Adams’ red hair and bright blue eyes creates one lovely outfit. Her partner-in-crime, with a pretty gorgeous pair of blue eyes himself, Matthew Goode is sexy in brown pants, working class boots, a maroon-colored shirt and a dark peacoat from All Saints Spitalfields. Matthew Goode actually thought Leap Year ended up being one of the worst films made in 2010, but he took the role so he could fly home to London on weekends! Oh, well, we liked it!
For this “Tuesday Twosome,” we chose our new favorite modern onscreen couple, Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake, from last summer’s box office hit, Friends With Benefits. (There were many other romances we wanted to feature during our Valentine’s Day countdown, but it’s hard to find proper stills of some of our older and foreign favorites! But Friends with Benefits is definitely our absolute favorite modern rom-com!) In this fast-paced, witty, atypical romantic comedy, Kunis plays Jamie Rellis, a New York City headhunter who tracks down a savvy blogger named Dylan Harper, played by Timberlake. As Harper is from Los Angeles and decides to take GQ up on their offer as their new art director, he finds he has only one friend in his new city – Jamie. Kunis and Timberlake make a perfect pair, playing verbal (and later physical) tennis with incredibly quick jokes, comebacks, and undeniable chemistry. (Which is why his supposed engagement to Biel made us very upset that these two weren’t a couple…) Due to the youthfulness of the picture, this dynamic duo is dressed in very fashion-forward business attire. In this scene, Jamie is coming to pick Dylan up from the airport for his initial interview with GQ. Although her silk button-down blouse, pencil skirt, and bun are all correct in the corporate world, Jamie’s lightning bolt necklace by Lizzie Scheck might look a little out-of-place (even though it cost $820 in real life!), but it actually provides some foreshadowing for the film. Timberlake is wearing a look made famous in the mid-1960s by the Rat Pack. The old cads donned fitted suits with skinny ties, and it seems this look is making its full generational trend return. (Wait for our full article on that soon…!) According to costume designer Renee Ehrlich Kalfus, Dylan is “a guy who could have a blog and tell other guys what to do.” For his work wardrobe, Kalfus selected slim-fit pieces from Dior, Thom Brown, and Save Khaki. This chic pair is the perfect couple to feature on February 14th in the year 2012! Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤
With a title like 27 Dresses, it should be no surprise that there are at least a couple of cute frocks featured in the 2008 film! This “Tuesday Twosome” is Katherine Heigl and Malin Akerman playing sisters Jane and Tess, who happen to be in love with the same guy! They also happen to have great taste in clothing, too! This scene is from Tess’ engagement party, where patient Jane is finally about to lose her cool! Akerman looks like a modern-day Roman goddess in this delicate yellow dress with a gathered front and lovely gold beaded edges from Temperley. Heigl wears a simple black cocktail dress with dark embroidery, and her hair done like a 1940s movie star in side-swept curls. The two make a sophisticated pair of siblings, but these lovely girls don’t stay pleasant to each other for long…
At this point, we should have written a single article on all the fantastic looks of Carey Mulligan as a teenager who grows up too fast in An Education. This is the third look we’ve featured from the film, and we still have a couple more we’d like to feature! In the 2009 movie, Mulligan’s character, Jenny, is seduced by the glamor and sophistication of an older group of socialites. Here, she is pictured with her female “mentor,” Helen, who teaches her how to dress and put on makeup, so she can look like a mature woman. Helen is played by British actress Rosamund Pike. (Fun Fact: Pike played Mulligan’s older sister in 2005’s Pride & Prejudice with Keira Knightley. It was Mulligan’s first movie role!) Here, Jenny is sporting one of Helen’s little black dresses with a soft white coat, black and white driving gloves and a small leopard hat. Helen is quite a match in a leopard coat, cream-colored shift with matching gloves and a white fur hat. The two make quite a cute pair, but Jenny will soon realize that her new social group is neither glamorous, nor are they true friends…
