The Grammy Awards are our editors’ least favorite red carpet event of the year, usually because it seems each artist is just trying to outdo eachother (or Lady Gaga, in recent years.) This year was no different with Katy Perry matching her dress to her outrageous hair color; Fergie sporting one hideous see-through orange lace number; Nicki Minaj dressed up like a Catholic cardinal; and even though Russian singer Sasha Gradiva had fake machine guns attached to her sleeves, and songwriter Bonnie McKee had yellow fringe dragging on the floor, the worst-dressed award surprisingly goes to a Victoria’s Secret model. Maroon 5 front-man Adam Levine’s girlfriend, Anne V, almost showed a body part that shares the same initial as her surname… Seriously? Where is that piece of fabric attached? But there were a few classy ladies in the crowd who we’d like to name. While Paris Hilton (pictured, top left) is far from what we’d call a musician, the socialite did look quite grown-up in her gold-embellished Basil Soda silhouette. The “Woman of the Night,” also known as Adele (pictured, top right), wore a custom-made sparkling black Giorgio Armani gown, jewelry from De Beers and Harry Winston, with a pair of Christian Louboutin pumps. All those Grammy Awards went quite nicely with her glittering gown! Kate Beckinsale isn’t a musician either, but she was a presenter for the ceremony (they really choose a lot of random attendees), and looked gorgeous, as always, in a one-shouldered draped cream dress with a black bow by Zuhair Murad. Finally, former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland demonstrates exactly who should wear nude – girls with her lovely mocha complexion! She looked very refined in her Alberta Ferretti gown with silver floral embroidery. The Grammys are still our least favorite award show, but at least these girls knew how to bring their A-game!

The British are elegant and friendly people, so it’s no surprise their film award ceremony is as delightful as they are. This year, not too many gowns wowed us, but there were several excellent choices on the London red carpet. Best Actress nominee Michelle Williams (My Week with Marilyn) shocked everyone by showing up in this sophisticated black and white silhouette from… H&M! While you won’t find this gown at your local mall, Williams still looks adorable with red lipstick, dark nails and the accessory of the season – an Arthur Miller book clutch from Olympia Le-Tan. (Fun Fact: Arthur Miller was married to Marilyn Monroe, who Williams was nominated for playing!) Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig looked especially beautiful in a gathered white Alberta Ferretti gown and new brunette locks. Our final favorite was created by Valentino – the perfect designer to feature two days before Valentine’s Day! Best Actress nominee Viola Davis decided to take part in the Green Carpet Challenge (where celebrities sport environmentally-sound digs on the red carpet), wearing a one-shouldered light pink gown made of eco fabric and… recycled plastic bottles! Going green never looked so good!
It’s no surprise that even the Halloween costumes on Gossip Girl look incredibly chic. Two years ago on “How to Succeed in Bassness” (Episode 7, Season 3), the notorious Chuck Bass threw a 1920s-themed Halloween party for the opening of his new club, The Gimlet. Blair looked like one fabulous flapper in this beaded fringe dress by Alberta Ferretti, and her fantastic “St. Petersburg” necklace by Suzanna Dai. Along with her pinned curls, layered necklace, dainty black gloves and T-strap high heels, Blair certainly looked like one sexy speakeasy-goer. This is also a costume you could definitely use every piece from in current outfits – an outstanding update on a near 90-year-old look. Although, it may be a little inappropriate as a theme two years into the Recession; or a great reminder of the way days were spent before the Great Depression…
Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movie franchise, is reported to be releasing a second green clothing line. The 20-year-old collaborated with British fair trade label People Tree to create eco-friendly t-shirts, skirts, shorts and dresses twice in 2010. Eighty-percent of the pieces were made with 100% organic cotton, and all proceeds went to the People Tree Foundation to help fair-trade farmers. This year will be the young actress’s final line with People Tree (which she models in the video posted below), but don’t fret – she has moved on to other fashion opportunities. Watson’s second fairly traded and environmentally sound line will be released with Alberta Ferretti on March 21st called “Pure Threads.” She has said to have been inspired by a 1970s Jane Birkin (the namesake for the famous “Birkin bag” by Hermès). Watson did not receive payment for her work with People Tree, although she did receive a six-figure deal when she modeled for Burberry in both in June 2009 and again for the British label’s 2010 Spring/Summer campaign. It has also been reported that Emma will be taking a brief hiatus from her Ivy League education at Brown to focus on her final Harry Potter film and these fashion pursuits. If she studies even half as hard as Hermione does, we’re sure she she’ll be able to complete all her projects successfully.
