What’s a good shoe to start off the summer with? How about this adorable pair of navy blue nautical stilettos! These platform peep-toe pair of pumps with sailor’s rope and mirror detailing are from British retailer Dune. Called the “Sintillate” heels, we could just see Sabrina of today’s “Look-of-the-Day” sporting these after a day of sailing with Humphrey Bogart!

No strangers to being a “Tuesday Twosome,” Prince William and Kate Middleton’s outfits may look like they belong to a Pecksniffian pair, but this royal couple is actually quite grounded. Despite having billions of dollars, they don’t have any servants and do their own grocery shopping! Although in this photo, the Prince and Princess appear to be the playing the part at the Epsom Derby over the weekend. Wills dressed in a traditional top hat and morning suit, while Kate had on a conservative cream suit from favorite store Reiss, nude platform pumps and a 1940s-esque hat. Terrific and toothsome, as always.
Even though the summer is getting nearer, in reality it is still Spring, and this is certainly an outfit made for the season. Here, our girl Keira is wearing a soft lavender-gray, floral silk blouse tucked into a high-waisted pastel skirt while collecting flowers in Atonement. Costume designer Jacqueline Durran received an Oscar nomination for the film, and considering how beautiful each outfit Knightley wore as Cecilia, it comes as no surprise that we’ve featured the film more than once already. (Fun Fact: theSkinnyStiletto‘s first ever Look-of-the-Day was from Atonement!) Durran stated, “The whole idea of Cecilia’s costume was that I wanted to give her the aura of a butterfly – something really light and transparent.” Her character may look light and airy, but underneath she is a fiercely loyal and bullheaded Brit. Oddly enough, her removal of this very outfit actually leads to her and her lover’s tragic future. Guess not exactly as “light and airy” as we intended!
Talk about one terrific “Tuesday Twosome!” As a political scientist, this editor just loves when fashion and politics collide, and this is the ultimate international combination of stylish spouses. Here, we have our elegant First Lady, Michelle Obama, and the posh princess, Kate Middleton, pictured during their meeting in the United Kingdom this morning. Princess Catherine sported one of her favorite designers, Reiss (you may remember the last time she wore one of their dresses…) The camel-colored Shola dress retails at $340 (which crashed the site today). Michelle wore an updated 1950s frock from Barbara Tfank. She accessorized her gorgeous black-belted, ice-blue, brocade dress with a pink shrug, silver stilettos and a beautiful brooch. Statecraft and style? Yes, please!
Kate may be the princess, but it seems no one can stop talking about her sister, Pippa! The cute brunette drew attention in her body-hugging bridesmaid gown, and it seems the public liked what they saw! Here is the maid-of-honor leaving London the day after the royal wedding in a crisp, summery look. She’s wearing a blue jacket from ZARA, white jeans, Tory Burch shoes, and a light grey Modalu Bristol handbag – which became so popular after this photo was taken that Modalu renamed it the “Pippa Bag.” Now that Kate is hitched, the public probably wants a new face to fawn over… and it seems Pippa is the new favorite!
This rainy, gloomy-looking day deserved a gloomy “Look-of-the-Day,” and who are more prepared for inclement weather and utter heartbreak than the British?! (We’re kidding, our editors are complete Anglophiles here at theSkinnyStiletto.) This “Tuesday Twosome” is none other than the gorgeous onscreen couple, Keira Knightley and James McAvoy as Cecilia and Robbie, in Atonement. Our first post was about Keira’s infamous green gown from this motion picture, so it’s not surprising we featured the Jacqueline Durran fashion again. Here, Cecilia is sporting a 1940s navy blue trench coat and matching hat over her nurse’s uniform, while Robbie has on his British military uniform. What’s sexier than people dedicating their lives to a cause higher than themselves? Nothing. (Well, some horrible paths of fate led them to their roles, but still.) Despite the couple’s lovely Oscar-nominated clothing, you want to cry just looking at their extremely plangent faces and knowing what awaits them.
