This probably should have been a “Look-of-the-Day” pick a couple of weeks ago when Princess Catherine first wore it, but we waited till now! Kate Middleton, looking glamorous as always wore this belted lavender Alexander McQueen gown when visiting Los Angeles in July. (This editor was supposed to attend the Alexander McQueen Exhibit at the Met with one of her best buddies today, but work got in the way… Boo!) Her platform silver strappy heels were by Jimmy Choo and her earrings were lent to her by Queen Elizabeth. William and Kate were attending the BAFTA Brits to Watch event in LA after their visit to Canada (where Kate also looked fab). The couple fit in perfectly among the Hollywood hotties who were trying to schmooze with the royal pair – although Kate outshined all of them!

James Bond has a reputation for being the best-dressed fictional character ever created. (I mean, 007 is in formal-wear 24/7…) In the most recent revamp of the series, his love interest in Casino Royale certainly isn’t a bad dresser either… This thinking man’s girlfriend is smart, sexy and sumptuous. The French actress Eva Green plays Vesper Lynd, a foreign liaison agent from the HM Treasury’s Financial Action Task Force, with a few secrets of her own. Here, she’s wearing a gorgeous, dark purple halter gown by Roberto Cavalli. It’s a wonder any of the poker players can keep their focus while this fox is in the room!
This week each “Look-of-the-Day” will be inspired by a Spring flower. Florals may not be our favorite trend, but there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be inspired by their natural beauty. We actually have shown this dress before in our President’s Day article on Mrs. Obama, but we never got to discuss it at length. This silk crepe frock was designed by one of the First Lady’s favorite artists, Maria Pinto, and worn in St. Paul when President Obama accepted the Democratic Nomination. Michelle’s bright purple dress brought to mind flowerpots of pansies on a sunny spring day. And while “pansy” is probably the least appropriate way to describe our nation’s tough “Mom-in-Chief,” it is certainly a flattering color on her beautiful skin.
The United States may have a fashion icon in the making in their White House, but France’s First Lady is a former model. (We can’t imagine why the French have a reputation for being so glamorous!) Carla Bruni, the Italian-born, French-raised fashionista is seen here in a bright purple Dior coat. She wore it during a 2008 diplomatic meeting with then-British First Lady, Sarah Brown. We were inspired by our sophisticated friend, Danielle, who was sporting a similarly chic look this weekend. Although, we didn’t get to take a picture of her, so Carla had to fill in instead! This shade is particularly flattering on brunettes, and since both of the stylish women are half-Italian, it’s no wonder they both look so beautiful in violet. Their eye-catching outerwear is reminiscent of a crocus in bloom – seeing this pop of purple in March (in the garden, or the streets of Manhattan) is the first sign that winter is leaving us. Au revoir snowy weather!
