Wednesday’s Shoe

Well, these would have made the perfect pumps for last weekend, but they’ll look cute for any weekend this summer!  These red, white and blue peep-toe pumps are patriotic and nautical – perfect for this season!  They can be purchased on one of our favorite sites, Baby Girl Boutique.  They have a 4.5 inch heel and cost $59.00.

Look-of-the-Day

The new love interest in the latest Transformers franchise is someone both men and women are starting to recognize… the long-legged, big-lipped bombshell that graces the pages of Victoria’s Secret is Miss Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.  While promoting her film debut, Rosie’s chic choices are delightfully understated but incredibly glamorous.  Rosie displays her best assets with dramatic plunging necklines or thigh-high train slits and this lady knows perfectly well what works for her.  We decided Rosie needed some additional attention for her custom Burberry navy number on a Sunday dedicated to blue!  (For a red, white and blue weekend!)  Rosie did everything right by wearing studs instead of distracting over-sized pieces of jewelry and by keeping her lusciously long tresses swept up gently away from her face and shoulders.  Let’s see if she sticks around longer than Megan Fox…

500 Days of Summer’s Sapphire Wardrobe

“This is a story of boy meets girl.  The boy, Tom Hansen of Margate, New Jersey, grew up believing that he’d never truly be happy until the day he met the one.  This belief stemmed from early exposure to sad British pop music and a total mis-reading of the movie The Graduate.  The girl, Summer Finn of Shinnecock, Michigan, did not share this belief.”  Zooey Deschanel always looks cute, whether it’s singing with her band She & Him or playing a disgruntled checkout girl in The Good Girl.  In 500 Days of Summer, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Tom, an optimistic architect who falls in love with the hipster sweetheart.  Deschanel plays Summer, a girl who isn’t interested in romance or relationships, and starts a casual fling in the first of a several films about “friends with benefits.”  (And probably the most realistic…)  One of our editors’ oldest and dearest friends is Zooey’s living and breathing alter-ego – a girl named Brittney, who’s 25th birthday happens to be today!  So in honor of her quarter life milestone, and the beginning of summer, what better movie to feature?!  The film, including all of Deschanel’s clothing, has a blue-centric theme that was done intentionally by director Marc Webb to bring out Zooey’s gorgeous eyes.  (And maybe to illustrate Summer is as cold as the color?  Or Tom’s depressing mood once the two split?)  The movie’s costume designer is a woman named Hope Hanafin (with a name as whimsical as the film’s fictional lead), and had some very interesting views and ideas about Summer’s clothes.  The teal and white halter dress (pictured, top left) is vintage Palace Costume.  The soft powder blue dress Summer wears to a co-worker’s wedding (pictured, above left) is from Western Costume.  Hanafin told MTV News “What I liked about that dress was that it was architectural.  Here’s this man who is an architect and then there’s this romantic dress made out of straight lines.  That dress just reminded me of the lines he would use when he was drawing, so I just fell in love with that dress for that moment.”

During an interview with MTV News, Hanafin stated the following: “A lot of it is vintage, but there’s still plenty that’s not.  Though I have great respect for these romantic comedies where secretaries are wearing Prada, I wanted [500 Days of Summer] to be kind of the anti-Sex and the City.  So, Zooey’s wearing clothes that her character really could afford, things are also repeated.  Her clothes are a mix of things from Old Navy, GAP, BCBG and then there’s a lot of vintage.  But not all of it was glamorous vintage.  She has a Built By Wendy denim skirt and a couple other great things.”  Although Summer Finn is one cool chick, we didn’t understand why she didn’t hold onto her best accessory in the film… Joseph Gordon-Levitt!

Wednesday’s Shoe

What’s a good shoe to start off the summer with?  How about this adorable pair of navy blue nautical stilettos!  These platform peep-toe pair of pumps with sailor’s rope and mirror detailing are from British retailer Dune.  Called the “Sintillate” heels, we could just see Sabrina of today’s “Look-of-the-Day” sporting these after a day of sailing with Humphrey Bogart!

Look-of-the-Day

For a movie entitled Australia, this isn’t exactly the first look that would come to our minds (considering the tan, athletic outdoorsmen we tend to associate with the world’s most badass continent- Russell Crowe, Eric Bana, Sam Worthington, and Hugh Jackman – the other lead star of this film!)  But Nicole Kidman looks 100% lovely in this 2008 epic that bombed at the box-office.  Baz Luhrmann’s movie had one other gorgeous aspect besides Mr. Jackman – the costumes!  The director hired none other than his wife, Catherine Martin.  Here, Kidman’s character is arriving in Australia wearing a stunning navy and white outfit with a polka-dotted blouse, along with matching luggage (courtesy of Prada), gloves, hat and that fantastic umbrella!  (She’s gotta keep that porcelain skin protected properly!)  Even though this movie turned out to be a disaster, at least it got Martin an Academy Award nomination!  And a well-deserved one at that!

Look-of-the-Day

Ahoy!  Now this is a Memorial Day outfit!  It’s nautical for the upcoming summer season, and it’s military-inspired to remember all those who have served!  Gossip Girl‘s Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester) tends to be in a state of dudgeon, but here she looks positively sweet in this sailor suit!  Blair’s version is called the “Captain” dress from Bettie Page Clothing.  There are actually dozens of places to buy a knockoff (this editor purchased an identical one for a whopping $25 on eBay).  Miss Waldorf wore this outfit on the first season finale of Gossip Girl when she was supposed to meet Chuck, and take off for Tuscany – but of course, nothing ever goes as planned for Blair.  At least she accessorized well with her neck scarf, Louis Vuitton luggage, and Yves Saint Laurent preppy pumps.  Here’s hoping your Memorial Day goes better than Blair’s!

Look-of-the-Day

Keira Knightley – both cute and always cutting edge, it’s no surprise we’ve already featured her so many times.  This “Fancy Friday” is Keira’s navy and white gown from promoting Atonement at the Venice Film Festival.  The actress honestly looks a little too thin, but still fresh-faced and fun in this halter dress from Chanel’s 2008 Resort Collection.  It is a flirty and fabulous inspiration for the first unofficial weekend of summer, and absolutely perfect for Memorial Day (even though it’s a French dress on a British body within Italian borders, it looks American to us!)

Look-of-the-Day

This rainy, gloomy-looking day deserved a gloomy “Look-of-the-Day,” and who are more prepared for inclement weather and utter heartbreak than the British?!  (We’re kidding, our editors are complete Anglophiles here at theSkinnyStiletto.)  This “Tuesday Twosome” is none other than the gorgeous onscreen couple, Keira Knightley and James McAvoy as Cecilia and Robbie, in AtonementOur first post was about Keira’s infamous green gown from this motion picture, so it’s not surprising we featured the Jacqueline Durran fashion again.  Here, Cecilia is sporting a 1940s navy blue trench coat and matching hat over her nurse’s uniform, while Robbie has on his British military uniform.  What’s sexier than people dedicating their lives to a cause higher than themselves?  Nothing.  (Well, some horrible paths of fate led them to their roles, but still.)  Despite the couple’s lovely Oscar-nominated clothing, you want to cry just looking at their extremely plangent faces and knowing what awaits them.

Look-of-the-Day

Probably the most famous attendees at the royal wedding were this “Tuesday Twosome,” David and Victoria Beckham (the other “royal” couple of England).  David looks just delectable in his Ralph Lauren purple label morning suit and top hat.  And Posh looks, well… pregnant and posh.  As, usual.  This is the perfect “Look-of-the-Day,” incorporating the best-dressed guests at the royal nuptials, as well as featuring David the day after his birthday, and Victoria donning a maternity dress from her own line (hint, hint on what we’ll be discussing this weekend for Mother’s Day…)  Posh was also in navy blue – a perfect tribute to our SEALs for catching Bin Laden!  Our favorite Spice Girl accessorized her look with 7-inch Christian Louboutin platform stilettos, and a headpiece by designer-of-the-moment Philip Treacy.  Everyone’s eyes were on William and Kate, but we think these Brits are still the cutest couple of the UK!

Look-of-the-Day

Well, now that William and Kate are husband and wife, we thought we’d be over talking about the new princess… but we’re not!  This week’s “Look-of-the-Day” segment will feature the best-dressed wedding guests of the happy couple!  This stunner in navy looked just as glamorous as Kate!  When we looked her up theSkinnyStiletto discovered that the Lady Frederick Windsor was actually Sophie Winkleman – an actress turned royal.  This is what we expected more of the guests to look like – a modern take on classic suits and wide-brimmed hats, but most invitees looked like they were competing to see who was wearing the craziest headpiece!  Winkleman’s diamond-patterned suit could easily look dowdy on an older woman, but she’s just so beautiful, she looks like she’s playing the lead in a Richard Curtis film.
