Look-of-the-Day

This is the perfect outfit to feature for a February 29th that falls on “Pink Wednesday” – an outfit from the movie Leap Year!  Normally, we save this film’s stylish looks for “Irish Week” prior to St. Patrick’s Day, but we have to celebrate a day that only comes around once every four years!  In this film, Amy Adams plays an uptight American named Anna Brady who attempts to travel to the Emerald Isle so she can get engaged on Leap Day – the one day it’s okay for a woman to propose to a man in Ireland.  Of course, a different Irish law comes into effect (one by the name of Murphy’s) and nothing goes as planned.  Here, she’s getting particularly irritated in a lovely outfit, probably not meant for the back roads of the Irish countryside.  Anna is sporting a floral blouse, a dark salmon pink cardigan adorned with flower buttons, and a high-waisted gray pencil skirt, all from Paul Smith.  She accessorizes the look with tan Christian Louboutin pumps, Louis Vuitton luggage, and a Burberry trench coat with a green and white floral lining she wears throughout the whole film.  Leap Day might throw Anna Brady’s love life out of whack, but at least it keeps her fashion choices and the calendar in sync!

Look-of-the-Day

Costume designer Marlene Stewart did a fantastic job outfitting The Holiday, because it seems we just can’t stop talking about the clothes in this movie!  Here, Cameron Diaz is wearing a silk black top by Carlos Rosario, a Roland Mouret white pencil skirt, black stiletto pumps and a leather and rhinestone belt that’s apparently vintage.  She stops by Jude Law’s adorable English home in this sexy outfit to surprise him, but he’s got two surprises of his own that she wasn’t expecting…  This glamorous look is perfect for holiday gatherings, or special date nights in December – actually this outfit is quite wearable year-round, but it sure does look good under a long dress coat – which makes it a perfectly lovely Christmas Eve selection!

Look-of-the-Day

Jean Grey doesn’t doesn’t have a very varied wardrobe in X-Men 1, 2 and 3, but she does have consistently simple and chic style.  Jean goes from a mild-mannered mutant scientist to a possessed madwoman by the finale and stars as the female lead in all three films.  Here, she’s wearing a deep scarlet long-sleeved crewneck t-shirt and a bright red pencil skirt with swept-up hair in the first movie.  Since she works at a school for gifted children, it’s important she looks professional, so it’s amazing that even though she is completely covered up except for her lean calves that she still looks so sexy.

Kiss of the Spider Woman

We think most men would welcome a bite from this spider… The Black Widow is a Russian spy who eventually joins The Avengers.  So far, her only major media appearance on TV or film is in Iron Man 2, where she is portrayed by the sexy Scarlett Johansson (as we mentioned in our “Look-of-the-Day.”)  Her full name is Natalia Alianovna Romanova, aka Natasha Romanoff.  She was born in Stalingrad, Russia and is a trained martial artist, spy and sniper.  Her first appearance as a costumed action hero (pictured, left) was in 1967 from The Avengers #36.  Natasha starts out as a Soviet, but defects to the United States.  Her fashion favorites include mostly tight, black skin-tight suits with blazing reddish-brown curls (and usually accessorizes her look with heavy weaponry).  In today’s “Look-of-the-Day,” she’s sporting a sexy secretarial look, and many of her outfits in Iron Man 2 follow as such, with puckering buttoned-blouses, pencil skirts, and tall stiletto pumps. Even her little leopard top has a frilly, feminine 1950s vibe, but her personality is anything but!  Natasha is a world-class athlete, with expertise in gymnastics and ballet (our editors two pursuits as children – can’t imagine why we like her…)  She is also trained in karate, judo, boxing, kung fu and marksmanship – not exactly typical qualifications for an assistant!  Natasha’s hair looks great in her go-to black (pictured, right), as does her insane body!  She may have only had a bit part in this movie, but she’ll be back for The Avengers in 2012!  (And then hopefully with her own starring role!)

Look-of-the-Day

Today’s Look-of-the-Day comes from 2000’s What Women Want.  What do we want?  To look as effortlessly sexy and professional as Helen Hunt does in this romantic comedy.  In a pale sage boat neck top, a fitted beige pencil skirt with matching stiletto pumps, a simple gold necklace and perfectly blown-out blonde locks, Ms. Hunt epitomizes Darcy, a successful ad exec who meets a mind-reading Mel Gibson.  Based on his voicemail messages, it seems Gibson surely doesn’t know what women want, but we certainly do… a workplace wardrobe as chic as Helen’s!
